We Offer Block Scheduling for Families
We know you are busy, that is why we offer block scheduling for families. If you have more than one child that needs to be seen, we can schedule everyone at the same time! This helps save trips to the office and checks ‘see the dentist’ off the to-do list in one stop! Our family dentistry services are here to help you.
Children’s Dentistry — Our dentists treat children as well as adults. It’s essential to instill in children early the importance of twice-yearly visits to a North Dakota dentist. Children who have regular visits to the dentist office have better oral health.
Dental Cleanings — At each checkup for adults and children, our dental hygienist will clean your teeth and remove any built-up tartar or plaque. Children will also get fluoride treatment to help protect their teeth, and one-time sealants once their adult molars have come in.
Dental Exams — Our dentists examine your teeth, gums, tongue, lips and mouth tissue at every visit to our dental clinic, checking for any signs of pathology. The earlier we spot an issue, the easier it is to correct.
X-rays — X-rays can show cavities, impacted wisdom teeth and other issues that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Our dentists take X-rays once a year, or more often if they discover an issue.
Restorations — When our dentists discover decay or an infection, we perform a restoration. For a small cavity, this would be a filling. For larger cavities, it may be an inlay or an onlay. When much of the tooth must be removed, our dentists use a crown. Some cavities are too far gone to save the tooth, and in these cases, we must do a tooth extraction.
Wisdom Tooth Removal — Most people should have their wisdom teeth removed proactively before they emerge and disrupt your other teeth. Children, teens and young adults who have not had wisdom tooth removal should be evaluated at our North Dakota dental clinic.
Preventive Care for Kids
We know that cavities are the #1 chronic disease in kids. Untreated tooth decay can lead to missed school, pain, frustration, and high dental costs down the road. That’s why we emphasize regular dental check ups and work hard to educate our young patients about proper brushing and flossing techniques. We partner with parents to discuss healthy eating and other ways to encourage children to learn about taking care of their teeth and their bodies.
Tooth Decay and Kids
Many people believe cavities are a result of an overly-sweet diet. While there is a bit of truth to sugar being the culprit, there are many risk factors besides sugar parents and kids need to be aware of. Things like:
- How often kids eat or drink things other than tap water
- Medications that list dry mouth as a side effect
- How often and well they brush and floss
- If they see the dentist regularly
If your child has tooth pain, or you notice discoloration, please be sure to come and see us. We can do an examination and determine if they have a cavity and need a filling. If a filling is needed, don’t worry! Dr. Hoerner is very gentle and can offer a variety of ways to help your child relax during the filling procedure. Preventing decay and filling cavities are both important to keeping your child’s teeth healthy and strong.
