What are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are basically thin shells designed to attach to the front of teeth to improve their appearance. Damaged teeth can include anything from fractures, chips, discoloration, and teeth that are too small or are misshapen compared to the surrounding teeth. Veneer teeth can be an affordable and successful alternative to crowns and implants especially when your situation involves minor dental problems. They are different from crowns and implants in that they act as a covering for the tooth while crowns and implants are replacements. Our veneers are molded and made in our in-house lab which eliminate wait times for our patients. However, since our lab does need some time to create the customized attachments, we do offer our patients temporary veneers as placeholders until the custom ones can be placed. Our porcelain veneers are made out of porcelain so they look like natural teeth, and we are careful matching the color of the veneers to blend in with the color of the surrounding teeth. This method is beneficial in making your smile appear more uniform and brilliant.
Dr. Christopher Klym in Bismarck, ND performs all of our veneer dentistry procedures. Following your first consultation with Dr. Klym and after you have both decided dental veneers are in fact the right choice for your situation, then the process of having your veneers made will begin. The first step will likely consist of a mold of your teeth being taken and sent to the lab to be used in the making of the porcelain teeth. All our dental veneers are made customized for each patient. We have found they are more comfortable that way and are less likely to become damaged. The following appointment will consist of the actual placement of the veneers. Receiving dental veneers is an easy procedure and consists of dental cement being used to attach them to the teeth and then the use of ultraviolet light to quicken the drying process.
Since veneer teeth procedures are considered cosmetic, most insurance companies do not cover the costs of them. However, we do offer affordable options for tooth restoration so all of our patients can leave our care with the healthy smiles they’ve always dreamed about.
Ideal Candidates for Veneers
While dental veneers can be a good option for patients with damaged or discolored teeth, they may not be the right option for everyone. Typically the best candidates for dental veneers are those who have good jaw and oral health. Porcelain veneers have also been shown to work best with patients who have developed healthy hygiene habits and are capable of properly maintaining their veneers. Patients that are not capable or not used to maintaining good oral health may have issues with dental veneers and cause them to need replacement prematurely. Kids are usually not the best cadisites for such a procedure for the reason that they are still learning how to brush and care for their teeth and may not be able to properly maintain the veneer teeth.
