Dentures are removable replacement teeth. There are two types of full dentures, conventional and immediate. With conventional full dentures, before the placement of the dentures, the tissue is given time to heal after teeth removal. You will be without teeth for a few months with this option. Immediate full dentures are what they sound like; immediately placed in the mouth after the teeth removal procedure. This allows you to not be without teeth, but does require resetting visits, as your mouth heals and the jawbone reshapes. Similar to a dental bridge, partial dentures are also an option.
Different Types of Dentures 
There are multiple styles of dentures used to complete your smile. Here are some of the differences you need to know about dentures:
- Conventional full – Conventional dentures are used to replace all the teeth that have been extracted. The dental implant cannot be used until the extraction sites have all healed completely.
- Immediate full – These dentures are inserted immediately after your remaining teeth are removed. Immediate dentures allow you to never be without teeth.
How Long Until I Get Used to My Dentures?
Dentures are a big step and take time to get used to. Eating and talking naturally come over time. We are happy to be here to help our patients adjust to life with dentures. Dentures are not real teeth but should be cared for in the same manner as your natural teeth with regular brushing and flossing. Dentures will need to be relined or remade due to normal wear over the years. We recommend following our at-home denture care instructions to prevent additional problems. Here are some recommendations you need to follow to keep your dentures looking amazing:
- Dentures are delicate and need to be handled gently to prevent them from cracking or breaking. Use a small folded towel to place underneath the dentures when you are cleaning them.
- Keep your dentures moist as dentures can dry out, causing them to shrink.
- Gently brush your dentures to prevent them from becoming stained.
